Really Big George- Finished!

In another avoidance tactic from sewing the other curtain (I really will have to finish that next) I finished “Really Big George”- based on a photo of Giant George. If you don’t know who Giant George, he was- until extremely recently- the biggest dog in the world ever!

This quilt is about a square metre and I have put it in my Etsy shop, but it’s not cheap 😉

There’s several different FMQ styles in there- my usual thread sketching but also I followed the design on the front on the background which gave a lovely effect. The fabric is from Heirloom by Joel Dewberry by the way.

The back is just simply Kona Natural, and the applique fabrics are a total mix of different manufacturers and designers I couldn’t possibly name them all.

Spotlight on… Wild Life Prints

I really need these in my office! There’s so much lovely artwork out there I am a little spoilt for choice, but I have plenty of blank wall to fill!

My new workroom

I start moving on Friday, which is very exciting, and then I can start work on setting up Rothley Contemporary Crafts. I was toying with the name “Rothley Atelier” but the OH said it wasn’t obvious what the company was all about, so I kept is simple.

I can’t wait to have a bigger space, at the moment my supplies have spilled out of my craft room, onto the landing and take up a third of the living room in boxes and bags now, and I feel like such a tramp- I can’t wait til I have a place for everything (and have everything in it’s plac e as the saying goes).

So as I can’t start laying protective flooring or anything yet, I thought I would share a couple of items I have bought or plan to buy to fit my raspberry and pistachio theme- handmade of course! I was going to start buying furniture today, but since my card was cloned in the cash machine (boo!) I can’t physically buy anything yet 😦

Cool work by LR Jewellery Design

I was doing a bit of Googling this evening and came across the work of LR Jewellery Design (http://www.lrjewellerydesign.com/) in New Zealand. These pieces are made from a mixture of acrylic and resin and I would LOVE to know how these are made. I definitely have to investigate acrylic further. I have some sheets I was going to saw into animal shapes but somehow that just doesn’t cut it anymore!

Spotlight on… UpcycleMe

So I’ve decided to start showcasing the work of other jewellery and accessory artists that I have discovered and admire, and have started by featuring http://upcycleme.etsy.com a fellow UK etsyer, who shares my love for plastic and my birthday! She recycles items that would be otherwise hard to dispose of in an eco-friendly way into beautiful pieces of limited edition art jewellery. I particularly like her warped lego bracelets, available for around $20/£10! Here’s some of my favourites:

If you have any great tips for sellers to feature, please drop me an e-mail at kerry@penny-dog.co.uk

Happy shopping!
