Stuff I’m working on

I made these medals this week. After asking for feedback on Crafteroo I’ve decided they are a bit too big, so will be looking at smaller “medal” and thinner ribbon combinations because I think the proportion is just right. Also looking at a better way of attaching the ribbon, and after suggestions I think kilt pins are the way to go! I have a couple more designs up my sleeve too.

I also made this belt with a swirly resin buckle. I’ve decided to stitch the next one differently (I’ve ordered some plain fabrics) and also I invested in some denim strength needles for my sewing machine as things got a little hardgoing at times! I’ll be making buckles to sell alongside the buttons in my shop.

Also I blogged previously about the colour core bracelets. Whilst I have been busy with orders (an amazing thing considering it is January) I have managed to finish one of them which is now for sale!

Custom orders have been really popular and today I finished this bangle for textile designer Aisling Law using pieces of her canvas inside. I think it came out really nicely!

And here’s a peek at other stuff in the works, I have a couple of wholesale orders and a few fairs coming up so it’s a case of catching up with the inventory too, and I also want to use my new power tools to make rings out of pool balls and also get a set of boot bracelets completed and up for sale soon so I’d better take some deep breaths and break out the sandpaper!

Spotlight on… Cherish Me

I saw these brooches whilst browsing through Folksy from http://cherishme.folksy.com and this girl share my love of Liberty fabric! I particularly like the animals and her packaging is pretty and sophisticated too!

Spotlight on… Akka Design

I discovered a relatively new Etsy shop in a treasury the other day and I like ๐Ÿ™‚ Akka Design (http://akkadesign.etsy.com) is relatively local, based in Dublin. I love all of the colours!

Make 50: Week 15 and 16

Since I fell a little behind with my makes, here is last week’s and this week’s together in a single blog post ๐Ÿ™‚

Week 15 saw me making a heck of a lot of wool flowers, then wrapping the stems with floral tape… A bit different for me, but there again so were the sock zombies ๐Ÿ™‚

And then this week I have been making samples for Kathleen and Lily’s, they wanted some brooches as their shop has a vintage theme, and I thought the resin piece was a bit bland on it’s own so I jujed (is that how Gok would spell it?) it up a little. Sending it to them today, I hope it is approved! Let me know if you think I should make some of these for my website, do you like them?

Owl Swap and Book Progress…

I took part in Meridian’s Owl Swap (http://meridianariel.blogspot.com) and though I’ve not received my parcel yet, my partner Rosina has received hers, so I can now post aย picture of what I sent!

pennydogowlswap

My e-book is now no longer a preorder as it is all completed and if you do decide to order it from http://www.penny-dog.co.uk it will be with you within 24 hours of receiving payment. Those who have ordered paperbacks can be reassured that theirs won’t be far behind now, the manuscript went to the printers today, ready for proofing. I know there is at least one typo that needs editing and then it will be printed for real, and I’m hoping I will have them all ready in a couple of weeks! I can’t see how it will be financially viable for selling on Amazon though as they take a huge cut, so much so I will make a loss after printing costs, so I’m trying to negotiate something at the minute… Just for now, don’t order the book from there as I can’t guarantee they will get the business! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Spotlight on… Red Suede Kitten

I saw this shop (http://RedSuedeKitten.etsy.com) whilst browsing through the Etsy forums today. She’s quite new to the site, and is looking for her first sale *hint*. I love the tactility (is that a word?) of felt jewellery, and the use of colours and irregular circles in her work, it’s so fresh and modern! I need to save up for a bracelet (see middle pic)!

Ooh pretty!

Coming from Hull originally, I can solidly say that I did not expect to find any seller on Etsy from there, or at the most, anyone with talent. I moved as it seemed to me to be a dead end town with little opportunity. Cherrypips http://cherrypips.etsy.com has proved me very wrong though, she has a beautiful shop, this in particular is my favourite:
