Teeny Weeny giveaway

I cut up all the 2.5″ squares for the scrap vomit swap this weekend, so now each of my three recipients have a random mix of 49 squares each. This seems like an odd number, but each block is 7 wide by 7 deep and the finished size is 14″.

I used my Big Shot for most of it, spurred on by an email from Angela who blogged about her Big Shot just before the weekend. Originally I was skeptical. I have had a Big Shot for a couple of years but I tend to use it for dust gathering felt and stuff, fabric doesn’t seem to work so well, even with the Bigz dies. Recently some quilting dies came out so I thought I would give it a try. One at a time it seemed like a lot of work and a lot of wastage. Then Angela pointed out something that should have been obvious but I hadn’t thought about it. Folding the fabric over and over to cut several at a time! And you know what, it prefers cutting lots of thicknesses at once, there’s only a couple of threads that need snipping and it saves loads of time!

I would still use a rotary cutter for charm squares and jelly roll strips if you are cutting 2.5″ squares as there’s no waste, however it’s great for irregular scraps.

So this giveaway then…

The prize is a random selection of 49 squares just like I did for the swap, some good some bad and definitely not the same as the picture. You could use them in your own scrap vomit quilt (See Katy’s post here if you’ve no idea what I’m talking about) or whatever you like. I’m going to make mine into randomly placed floating blocks I think so I don’t need as many and I can practise my large negative space quilting…

I will be cutting your squares from anything in here- and you won’t know what you will get til it arrives!

Just leave a comment here to enter before 23.59 GMT on Thursday 4th October and I will draw the winner from there.

Giveaway: Carefree Quilts book by Joy-Lily

Another book sent to me by the publishers- and this one appeals to the lazy and maths-shy side of me! The book is ideal for those of us that like to just get stuck in and make, without having to do a huge amount of prep work or worry about perfect seam allowances.

This book has 13 projects- not just quilts- there’s a tablerunner, tote bag, placemats (above) etc made from flip blocks or stack and slash blocks. If you like wonky quilts and modern patchwork, this could be a nice book for you. Here’s some photos of my favourite pages…

So would you like to win my copy of this book? There’s 3 ways to do this…

1) Leave a comment here, if you want inspiration, visit RUCraft and tell me which craft book there is at the top of your wish list.

2) Like me on Facebook and leave me a comment saying you have done so

3) Tweet this giveaway and the link to this page, you can use this text if you like: “I’ve entered the Carefree Quilts book giveaway on @pennydog’s blog, https://pennydog.wordpress.com/2012/08/06/giveaway-carefree-quilts-by-joy-lily/“. Come back and comment that you’ve done that and leave your Twitter username.

So that’s a total of 3 comments to leave, this giveaway is open internationally until Friday 10th August at 6pm GMT.

Good luck!

Giveaway winner

Just a quick post…. I need to announce the winner of the bird die!

The winner is Karen S! I will email you now 🙂

Bird cutting die giveaway!

I found this die whilst tidying up my room this weekend- I’ve never used it! It works in most die cutting machines and cuts paper, card, etc into cute birdy shapes…

It’s the Bird of Paradise die from Marianne Design and the wing is separate so you can do 3D stuff with it if you wish. RRP is around £8.

So I thought one of you might like it? This giveaway is open internationally until the end of Friday 27th July 2012. To enter, just tell me which of these pictures of Fletcher you think is the cutest- I’m entering him for the Pets on Quilts competition next month and we had a photo session on Saturday (in that I lured him outside with his favourite biscuits and tried to convince him to stay sitting and not lay down)- I just can’t decide! He does look a bit dumpling shaped sat down, instead of generic greyhound shape, but I don’t think that matters…

In other news, I finished my Fireworks Display block and totally ballsed it up when appliqueing onto the background fabric. It all wrinkled and went weird so it looks like I am unpicking it tonight and might be handsewing it on a hoop or finding some kind of stabiliser. Also, Karen and Patricia have been selected as pattern testers- I shall email you both later!

If you want more die cutting stuff I’ve got a few bits on eBay this week, ending Wednesday and I may add some more tonight. Click here.

And the winner is…

Jo Robertson wins the pillowcases to cut up and use however she wishes 🙂

Right well I’m on holiday now until next week so I will catch up with you all then!

A hedgehog and a little giveaway

Because I said there’d be hedgehog pictures…

Right then so you want to know about the giveaway? Well I bought a bedding set from the antiques shop last weekend because even though the fabric was pale brown, I’m a sucker for that big bloom 70s style of pattern. I know there will be someone else like me who likes that too so I’m quite willing to share my purchase. When I unpacked it for washing, I found there was one big flat sheet plus two pillowcases. I’m pretty sure they’re 100% cotton, so ideal for patchwork or purse lining, something like that maybe. I might make a summer dress!

So, who wants to win the two pillowcases? They’re pretty large- I’d say in total you could get well over half a yard of material out of these! One person will win both, just leave a comment here to win. Open internationally. Closing time for entries is 11.59pm (GMT) on Tuesday 3rd (I’d say midnight but I didn’t know if that would confuse which day I meant) and I’ll draw the winner on the Wednesday.

Now I’m off to make handbags as my supplies came! More on that tomorrow…

Fluffy Sheep Quilting giveaway

Cindy at Fluffy Sheep Quilting is having a giveaway- 2m of Kona solids however you want them! She’s asking for colour combination suggestions for Fat Eighth Bundles which she plans to release later this year.

Here’s my bundle, I’ve called it Summer Holiday. In the book club at work there was a picnic bag which was a beautiful combination of teal, coral and gold with a bit of white too. I would never have put those colours together usually but they looked fantastic! So that’s what mine is based on, to find out how to enter yourself, the blogpost with all the details on is here.

Colours selected (L to R): Corn Yellow, Bright Pink, Teal Blue, Pepper, Snow, School Bus, Purple, Lime.

Feel free to follow my blog. I’d like that but it’s not essential. I will be doing some free block patterns and stuff soon as a BOM if I have enough regulars interested. And tutorials and what-not- I’m planning on having a play with gelatin printing my own fabric very soon and showing you what I did along the way. So yeah, hopefully you might want to stick around….

Good luck!

(Oh and this won’t get you extra entries or anything, but it would be great if you voted for me over here: http://www.crafteroo.co.uk/smf/index.php/topic,9491.0.html)

Finish a long finished- and button giveaway winner revealed…

I finished my footstool for the finish-a-long over on Rhonda’s blog that I mentioned quite some time ago now. The first quarter is up by the end of next week (how fast is this year going?!) and I had hardly done anything on it, so the last 3 days I’ve used a spool of thread and finished it just this evening!

Sorry for the rubbishy picture, I need to hoover so I didn’t want to show you any of the other rooms 😀 It’s made from two charm packs and a little bit of orange for the centres, The original Ikea cover is on the inside to cover the seams.

Oh and I also made half a cake today. I didn’t have a smaller tin to make two to stack, and I knew cutting it like a sandwich would fail so I cut it across the cake and made it a bit fat half cake with butter cream and the odd splodge of jam! Look I put little daisies on it 🙂

But of course you’re all waiting to see if you won my box of buttons. Well there were 411 in the box when I counted them, which means the closest person is Fiona who guessed 407! So close! I shall be e-mailing you Fiona 🙂
