Twenty Hedgehogs

Well I managed it, with minimal unpicking and swearing… but with a lot of patience… it’s the first of Twenty Hedgehogs!

This is a “platinum” variety of african pygmy hedgehog – it has a heavy mottled tummy, a black face and very white quills. The eye is painted on with acrylic paint. I’ve tried to machine embroidery “platinum” below it in gold thread but it doesn’t show very well so I think I’m going to do it again by hand with black perle cotton. Only 19 more to go! The plan is for 20 different ones, there’s some snowflake, pinto and algerian varieties mixed up with the standard colour ones (for you hedgehog nerds out there). This took me a few hours to do but I should speed up with time. For now I think I am going to finish my goldfinch quilt and also the footstool I am supposed to be finishing for the end of the month for the Finish-a-long before I do any more!

The Twenty Hedgehogs quilt will be echo quilted when I’m done and hung on the wall above my sewing machine. My workspace currently looks like this. iPhone (for the radio), iron and board, hedgehog underneath, plug in air freshener to counteract stinky hedgehog, and then sewing machine. I do have some pictures on the wall a bit higher up over the ironing board but above my machine the wall’s a bit bare.

I really want a machine with a longer arm and bigger workspace for quilting, it looks so small in this picture!

A sneaky peek of my new room and a couple more for the Pinterest Challenge

I’ve decided that recipes I’d pinned on Pinterest count towards the challenge, but I felt that if I did two of them, that would make it count more! So yesterday I made cheese and spring onion beer bread- dead simple, no kneading, no rising, no fuss! Here’s the recipe.

I also made salted caramels, taking this recipe and sprinkling sea salt crystals lightly over the top I’m not sure how I feel about salt on them yet, but once dipped in chocolate I have a feeling they will work much better. I need to cut them up, but I couldn’t resist popping a circle out to taste. I’m in disbelief that they actually set! To make them exactly as I have, substitute the butter for sunflower spread and the cream for Weight Watchers extra thick double cream. It works! You will most definitely need a sugar thermometer though, there’s no way around that!

I’ve been moving into my new room in the garage. I still have a wall to paper, some skirting board to go down and some stuff to put on the wall so it feels a bit more homely but it’s getting there. Please excuse the clutter, some of it is crafty destash stuff I have listed here, other bits just need allocating a home. I love having a double school desk to use as an extension table for my quilting and the red cabinets with the textured white wall, I think it works really well! Who knew I had so much ribbon that I need two more hangers putting up though?! I can’t wait to get my fabric on the shelves and all visible for easy selection but I am waiting for boards to come in the post (I have been waiting over a fortnight so I am starting to get quite impatient).

I got a new clock yesterday too! I will give you a proper tour when I am completely moved in, I can’t guarantee at the decorating will be done by then though!

PS- that quilt on the desk that you’ve seen a million times before on here? I’m nearly halfway through quilting it, then I’m going to bind it by bringing the backing fabric forward and I will have my very own quilt just for me!

What’s on my resin desk…

I’m starting to get tempted into resin again. It’s been a long time coming but I had a repeat order for some gummy bear stuff from Ji Ji Kiki and a new stockist called Life’s Big Canvas so it was the push I needed.

So here’s what I have going on at the minute…

Big pile of bears airing!

I have new fabric pendants on the way (they have white backs so you ca’t see them) and, oops, that’s right, I’ve not done anything with those cups and teapots yet :S

And since I wanted to play and not just work I’m playing with a bit of Plique-a-jour. Hopefully it will be successful because I keep failing at it! I’m half expecting to go back to it in the morning and the little pockets of colour will have bled all over…

Window Vista

You remember my workroom just after we moved and the wall was put up in the garage? It looked like this…

And to be honest it stayed that messy until last friday when I tackled it…. Today we had the windows put in and it looks great! Jus need walls plastering and something other than concrete on the floor now!

It’s hardly like a garage at all now 🙂

New room!

I had my workroom built in our garage! OH and his dad spent the weekend putting a divider up, it’s still bloody cold and bloody messy, but we are getting somewhere! Got windows going in in the New Year, but the temporary space blanket was a nice thought 🙂

Home Sweet Home

As some of you will know, we bought our first house on Friday! As a result, the last few days have been spent ferrying stuff from the rented house to the new one. I’m getting a new workroom by converting the garage, but in the meantime this is what I have to put up with:

Rather rubbish, eh? Anyway priorities were unusual to say the least, as one of the first unpacked items was “roller chicken” that I got from Northfield Primitives as part of the bird swap I took part in last month!

More house pics are over on Flickr from before we started moving stuff in if you wanted a peek…

Let me explain…

My desks are ridiculously untidy at the minute as I’ve got a lot on…. I thought I’d show you!

I’ve since done a little more on some of the items. The paperweight is finished and the picture frame is starting to look so much better than I could have ever hoped!
