Spolight on… Magdalinen

I loved this delicate crochet jewellery, made in Latvia by Magdalinen (http://magdalinen.etsy.com). It is made from organic linen yarn, here’s some of my favourites:

I think it’s getting quite obvious from my picks recently that I have a thing for necklaces!

Make 50: Week 26

I made this huge beetle paperweight yesterday, the first thing of this size I’ve made. I’m quite pleased with it!

Giving it a whirl….

I had a go at a resin painting effect. Didn’t come out the same as I’d drawn it, but it looks kind of like fire! I think I like it, and plan to make more in fire colours- what do you think?

Spotlight on… Beautiful Skin

These are gorgeous leather accessories from http://tovicorrie.folksy.com aka Beautiful Skin and have a hint of tattoo style as well as vintage in their design. The graphics are printed directly onto the leather and are original works of art by the shop owner. Here’s some of my favourite cuffs, but there’s other stuff too…

Make 50: Week 25 – The idea worked!

Remember that rough sketch a few posts ago? Well it turned into a rather nice pair of resin J-hoop earrings! I’m really pleased with how these turned out, I am currently making some silver leaf ones as we speak!

Make 50: Week 24

I made this set of citrusy goodness for a lady on Etsy who is setting up a juice bar with her husband. Their speciality drinks feature lemon, lime, grapefruit and orange, so she wanted these in a ring, pendant and earrings, so this is what I came up with!

Interview with… LEJ Jewellery

lej1 lej2

LEJ Jewellery is Jo- though I’m not sure what LEJ actually stands for or symbolises- it’s a mystery! I particularly like the combinations of colour that Jo uses in her work as well as her eye for great beads!

Who are you and where do you come from?
My name is joanne, i do many craft such as cross stitching, card making, jewellery making and i have recently started glass fusing and knitting. I live in lancashire with my husband and 2 lovely children.

What do you do in your spare time other than craft?
Spare time? whats that? no seriously i like going for walks and just enjoying the quite.

Please tell us a little bit about what you make.
I mainly make jewellery, my style is novelty although i do make some fashion pieces too. I love to make something which the chances of someone else having is slim. I have recently sold 2 VW beetle charm bracelets from one of my shops and have had an order for a spider charm bracelet. Plus pigs are always popular.

What do you enjoy making most?
I have to say bracelets as they are what i have the most of. I think lampwork beads are my favourite beads at the minute for making them with too.

What part do you dislike the most?
Having to wait until the kids go to bed before i start, i would craft all day if i could. It’ll probably be easier once my youngest starts school next year.

What are your main inspirations for making a piece?
Sometimes i’ll see a piece in a magazine which i like ie. colours or style and then i will change it so it is more my piece. I also love fairies and angels and a few of my pieces tend to be designed with that feel.

Do you plan out your designs or do you get stuck in straight away when inspiration strikes?
More often than not i will just put all my beads out on the living room floor and go from there, once everything is out i can see what works together and what doesn’t.

What are you currently making?
I am currently making some beaded curtain tiebacks, i have just made a hello kitty set and i am now going to try and make some boy themed ones.

Do you make custom orders?
Yes, i welcome any custom orders.

Where can we buy your work?
My work is available from my website - www.lej-jewellery.co.uk
My misi shops - http://www.misi.co.uk/store_info.php?user_id=467
My folksy shop – http://www.folksy.com/shops/lejjewellery

Make 50: Week 22 and 23

I was a bit naughty and didn’t blog a make last week, that’s not to say that I didn’t make anything, I in fact made a lace cuff amongst other lacy things for Kathleen and Lily’s but didn’t take a photo. A lot of my makes get shipped off as soon as they’re finished which makes this (and my failed attempt at Crafting 365 over on Flickr) near impossible for me!
Anyway here goes, these are technically kind of the same thing, but I don’t think it matters- available on Etsy, Folksy and my site

An idea…

idea
Can you tell what it is? I had a query through Etsy today and it got me thinking- I could offer J-hoop style earrings very easily, so I will be having a play with these and see whether the sketch can transform into reality!

Also I have picked 3 people to receive something from me in the pay it forward, they are:
Alix
Katie
Sarah Scott

Don’t forget that you can now blog for participants in your own Pay It Forward now that you have been selected- I’ll get stuff out to you next week once I’ve collected your addresses!

Resin Moulds now available!

When I first started in resin jewellery making, I was amazed that the flexible type moulds couldn’t be bought here in the UK. It’s also one of the main keyword searches that people use when coming to my website- but it was something I didn’t offer. The best- and also best known- mould “brand” is Resin Obsession, run by Cindy Carter in the United States. Her moulds are great and I’ve been using them almost from the very start. Her range of moulds is so thorough and ideal for all resin jewellery (and ornament) makers, but of course airmail isn’t as fast as we’d like- we buy moulds and we want them straightaway!

So the solution. Cindy has very kindly allowed me to be her UK supplier, so I can now confirm that a small range of moulds are available to buy in my shop! Depending on the success I may be stocking a larger range in the near future- and all moulds are delivered by first class post in the UK so you will receive them 1-2 days after ordering- hurrah!
